Ailing, O’Regan returns to ring

Tomorrow night at Glen Cove High School on Dosoris Lane in Glen Cove, Long Island, O’Regan’s Morris Park stablemate Jaime Power returns in the 178-pound second round. Both shows start at 8 pm. The opponents had not been determined as the Echo went to press.
“The left shoulder is still sore, but I’m all set,” O’Regan said on Sunday, ahead of his second-round match at the Brooklyn PAL, at 127 Pennsylvania Ave. in East New York.
“I’ll ice it and see how it goes. There’s no likelihood of me pulling out,” the 28-year-old Limerick product stated.
O’Regan hurt his shoulder in his close points win over William Rosinsky in the first round of the Gloves three weeks ago. He saw a doctor last week who diagnosed the problem has being related to muscle spasms.
“The doctor recommended a cortisone shot as the last option and gave me anti-inflammatory tablets and painkillers,” O’Regan said. “I’ll grit my teeth on the night and do my best.”
Because of the shoulder, O’Regan, 2002 Gloves quarterfinalist at 178 pounds, who’s representing the Bronx’s Morris Park boxing club, has only been able to do some light sparring. But that hasn’t affected his conditioning, he insisted.
“I ran for an hour today and I’m very, very fit,” he said.
Power, meanwhile, declared all systems go for his second bout in the 178-pound novice class.
“I’m ready to go. I feel pretty good,” Power, who also hails from Limerick, said. “I’m in better shape than last time. I’m pretty sure, but we’ll find out on Thursday night.”
The 24-year-old Golden Gloves debutant was one of the most dominant fighters in his class in the first round, scoring a unanimous 5-0 decision over Hassahn Gordon.
