Alan Kelly, Ireland goalie and DC coach, dies at 72

One of his three sons, Alan Kelly Jr., is Ireland’s current goalkeeping coach.
Kelly Sr., who grew up in Bray, Co. Wicklow, began his Republic career against then reigning world champions West Germany at Dalymount Park, Dublin, in 1956. The Irish won 3-0.
He became the first-choice goalkeeper from 1962, playing in 47 international games through 1973.
Kelly told the Irish Echo in 1999 that his greatest memories were associated with international football. In the early days, he would tune in to Radio
