Alliance’s Vargo rejects censure by Unionist bigs

Vargo accused leading unionists, including Ulster Unionist Party leader David Trimble, of making “repeated insinuations” that the alliance, which sponsors the Mitchell Scholarship program, was not a non-partisan organization.
Vargo’s riposte followed a recent exchange between her and Trimble in the Irish Times and critical questions aimed at the alliance in the British House of Commons.
Trimble, in a letter to the Times, had accused Vargo of making “some absurd accusations” that were “unbecoming the president of a supposedly non-partisan charitable organization.”
