James Costello shot a low net 67 to pace the field in the recent Irish Rovers tournament at Grossinger’s.
Following Costello were 15-year-old Hugh O’Connell, Gerry Brady, Des Costello, Tony Johnson and Jim Reilly, who put on a fine short-game display.
Des Costello was the low gross winner, followed by Brady and Al Tall.
O’Connell was closest to the pin on the fifth, Tall on the seventh, Des Costello on the 11th and Frank Sheilds on the 17th.
Oliver O’Leary’s 345-yard drive on the eighth hole was the best of the day. Paddy Phelan had the longest drive on the 18th. Ger Brady hit a sand wedge an impressive 205 yards.

Martin Dunne fired a 69 to win the Crown City Golf Club’s Memorial Trophy Tournament recently at the Links at Union Vale. Glen Miller finished one stroke back, while third-place finisher Larry Feely shot a 72. The low gross winner was Jerry Downey (78). The four were joined by Jim Fleming in qualifying for the upcoming Guinness Bass Tournament.
Crown City’s president, Johnny Murphy, and greens chairman Paddy Donohue paid tribute to deceased members.
Woodlawn Golf Club
Pat Lynch shot a 65 and Bill Carlson 67 to pace the field at the recent monthly Woodlawn Golf Club tournament at Split Rock. In another recent club event, held at Union Vale, Kieran Breen shot low-net 72.
Two club members, John Barry and Mattie McNeill, passed away recently.
