Liam Gleeson fired a 78 to earn low-gross honors at the recent Emerald Golf Society’s Memorial Tournament recently at the Links at Union Vale.
Gleeson was named captain of the Emerald team for the Guinness Irish Tour. Other team members are Leo Kehoe, Mike Donovan, Gerry McQuaid and John Foley.
Kehoe was the low-net winner, followed by Gleeson, McQuaid and Donovan. Cloest to the pin were Brian Egan on the third, Kehoe on the seventh, Pat O’Toole on the 10th and Richie Keating on the 12th. Charlie Byrne hit the longest drive on the 15th.
Emerald President Connie Malone paid respect to all deceased members at the awards presentation.
Inisfada Golf Club
Syl Nugent shot a low-grow 83, outpacing Leo Kehoe by two strokes and Mike Kennedy by three in capturing the recent Inisfada Golf Club tournament at the Middle Island Country Club.

Herb Herman shot a low-net 70, followed by Kehoe (71), Pat Daly (72), Kennedy (72), Sean McGuinness (73) and Bernie Lavin (73). Daly was also closest to the pin on the fourth hole.
In club championship match play, it was Kennedy over Frank Heaney, Shane Beatty over Jack McCaffrey, Wes Adams over Mike Donovan, Daly over Don Cavanagh, and Kehoe over Pete Tamiolonis.
Gaelic Golf Club
Jim Hegarty shot a low-net 69, a stroke better than Pat Hickey, to win a recent Gaelic Golf Club tournament at the Link at Union Vale. Pat McGovern was closest to the pin on the seventh, while Jim Garry was closest on the 12th.
At the previous club tournament, at Blue Hills, Margaret McIntyre had a hole-in-one on the 135-yard eighth hole. She used a five iron.
