The rally was organized by the so-called “Green Linnet Five” — Mick Moloney, Eileen Ivers, Joanie Madden, Cherish the Ladies, and Altan — who are involved in a heated and now increasingly public legal dispute with the label.
“We’re here because royalties have not been paid,” Moloney said. “We’re here because artists have been exploited in a variety of ways, and one of the most obvious ways is when monies legally due were not paid, and they’re well into six figures at this point. Doubtless you’ve seen compilations of Celtic this and Celtic that all over the place. They’re well over 100 in number, and not one penny has been paid to any of us from hundreds of thousands of sales for these compilations. We’re here out of a sense of outrage.”
Amid comments from various speakers were tunes and songs performed by such musicians as Moloney, Madden, Ivers, Altan’s D
