At swim for a good cause

The selflessness that permeated the event is exactly what organizer Earl McCarthy, Head Coach of Trojan Swimming Club, sought to encourage in his young swimmers, but even he was astonished by their response.
“The kids made it happen,” he said crediting the swimmers, particularly Trojan team captains Susanna Murphy, 21, and Shane McCauley, 24, for organizing the event, securing sponsorship and encouraging the children not only to swim, but to bake cakes to sell with drinks donated from Coca-Cola, Pepsi and Spar.
They put a lively and effective pair of 13-year olds, Hannah Barnett-Byrne and Maria Mathews, on first shift at the “Speedo store” to sell sports gear donated by Swimonline.ie.
