At what price?

When the pressure is on, nobody punches above their weight better than the Aussies. Of course, afterwards some bureaucrat worked out that each of the 49 baubles brought home by their athletes had come at a hefty price of roughly $5 million in public funds. The British worked out that their cost per medal was closer to $8 million. The Canadian accountants settled on a sum of around $4.4 million per gold, silver and bronze.
These sums should be taken into account by any of the people out there questioning Sonia’s right to finish off her career representing Australia at next month’s Commonwealth Games. We should support her whatever she does, wherever she goes, because really, she owes Ireland nothing.
