Best of the Bronx 2008 Honoree: Barney Ferguson

Barney Ferguson, is the President of N.Y. Blue Security, a company he founded in 1984. He is a retired NYPD homicide detective who was born and raised in the Mott Haven section of the Bronx. He attended St. Luke’s Catholic School, Samuel Gompers High School, City College of New York and Iona College.
Ferguson was named Grand Marshal of the NYC St. Patrick’s Day Parade in 1978. He retired from the NYPD in 1979, after sustaining line-of-duty injuries while apprehending a homicide suspect. In 1982, he opened Jamieson’s Restaurant in NYC. Ferguson has served as President of a number of organizations, including the NYPD Emerald Society; the Co. Leitrim Society; the NYPD Retired Detectives Association; AOH Division 3 (for three years) and the Grand Council of United Emerald Societies (for 4 years). He has also served as DEA Trustee, NYPD Anchor Club, and helped form 15 new Emerald Societies. He currently serves on the Boards of the Emerald Isle Immigration Center; Ancient Order of Hibernians Division 3; NYPD Retired Detectives Association; NYPD & Westchester PD Emerald Societies. He is involved the public relations for the New York State Shields.
Among the many honors Ferguson has received in the course of his career are aCongressional Citation Hon. Peter T. King; NYS Shields Lifetime Achievement Award and Detectives Crime Clinic Outstanding Law Enforcement Professional. He was named Irishman of the Year (NYPD Emeralds), Man of the Year (Anchor Club), and has received dozens of awards from Irish, police and political organizations.
