Currently, Bob Nolan works as budget director for Bronx Borough President Adolfo Carrion, Jr. He has been employed by three different Borough Presidents over the past 30 years. Educated at Fordham University, Nolan was an instructor at Borough of Manhattan Community College and moved onto the Mayor’s Office of Economic Development, in charge of the Business Action Center. He joined the office of the Bronx Borough President in January 1979 as director of economic development and created the plan that resulted in the founding of the Bronx Overall Economic Development Corporation in 1980. During the ’80s, he worked in administration, and later spent several years responsible for Board of Estimate contracts. In the ’90s, he was appointed budget director, where I recommended capital projects to the President, which included investments in parks, libraries, schools, and hospitals as well as expense programs in senior centers, youth, education and culture.
Nolan’s greatest accomplishment was marrying Susan Gannascoli of Brooklyn and convincing her to move to the Bronx. They are the proud parents of Christopher, 32, an attorney with Holland and Knight, their daughter-in-law, Kristen, who is an attorney with the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) and Vivian, 29, who works for STRUCTURETONE,INC., a Manhattan construction company.
Nolan has been honored by many groups and organizations, but the highlight was to be named Grand Marshal of the Throgs Neck St. Patrick’s Day parade in 2006.
Said Nolan, “None of what I have been able to accomplish would have been possible without the love, guidance and direction of my parents. Dad, Benjamin F. Nolan, whose parents emigrated from County Kerry, was an attorney, with a lengthy record of service to the State and City of New York, who was elected a Civil Court Judge and later elevated to the Supreme Court, a judicial career that spanned 17 years. He was a man who was universally respected in all Bronx communities and neighborhoods. Mom, Agnes Wynne Nolan, raised 3 children and made time to be active in many service groups. My family has always been was committed to public service. I have carried on that tradition.”
