Big theft at Leitrim dinner

February 16, 2011

By Staff Reporter

It is believed that a man not associated with the Leitrim Association engaged society members in conversation at the door, where they were taking money from patrons of the event.
He managed to distract them enough and is alleged to have stolen the money on the evening of Saturday, March 15.
“A substantial amount was taken,” said the association president, Margaret Taylor Finucane. She declined to say how much. Another unnamed source said that as much as $9000 had been stolen from the door.
“The theft took place inside the building,” Finucane said, “But it was no one associated with the Leitrim society.”
He added: “We called the police. But they haven’t done too much so far.” Sources from the 114th precinct declined to comment.
Finucane said: “Nobody was hurt; that’s the main thing.”
Admission was priced at $70 per person for the evening.
