DUBLIN – A baby daughter born to one of the injured in the Omagh market massacre has spurred hope for the future amidst the tragedy.
Nicola Emery, 21, who is a Protestant and her partner Michael Mulholland, 17, who is a Catholic, became parents five days after the blast.
Nicola, who received minor injuries to her legs, said that she hoped her 7lb 6oz baby would grow up in a world free of violence. The baby was born in Dungannon’s South Tyrone Hospital where staff described its arrival as a "ray of light in the darkness".
Nicola had been in the last stages of her pregnancy when she was out shopping Omagh with members of her family and the 500lb car bomb exploded.
