Bloomy and bucks at AIF dinner

More than 1,200 guests gathered at the Tent at Lincoln Center to honor New York’s chief citizen in addition to Taoiseach Brian Cowen and both FTI Consulting president and chief executive officer, Jack Dunn, and chairman, Dennis Shaughnessy.
The fundraiser, the largest of the fund’s 80 worldwide events, raised over $2.3 million in support of Irish-American and Irish philanthropic causes.
Bloomberg was presented with the AIF 2009 Humanitarian Award in recognition of his leadership of New York City, his philanthropic endeavors, and his work in support of the Northern Ireland peace process, the fund said in a statement.
Irish Foreign Minister Miche_l Martin accepted the 2009 Heritage Award on behalf of the taoiseach who was honored for his work in strengthening the ties between Ireland and the U.S., his aid to the weaker members of the Irish diaspora, and his role in the peace process.
The Leslie C. Quick Jr. Leadership Award was presented to Jack Dunn and Dennis Shaughnessy of FTI who, according to the fund, have guided FTI to the point of being the leading global consulting firm to many worldwide organizations.
“Despite the current economic crisis we are delighted by the funds raised this year. This year’s gala is among the most successful fundraising events in the U.S. this year and is a true testament to the strength and commitment of the Irish-American community,” said AIF president Kieran McLoughlin.
