The singer instead agreed to supply the illustrations for a special edition of Prokofiev’s “Peter and the Wolf” to raise funds for the Irish Hospice Foundation.
The 16 drawings that accompany the classic story were drawn by Bono, with input from his daughters, Jordan and Eve. The illustrations are a bit rough by professional standards, and the protagonist looks suspiciously similar to a certain sunglass-wearing celebrity (we’re naming no names), but sure, it’s all for a good cause, right? Ratcheting up the hipness factor is the accompanying CD, which features music and narration by Bono’s occasional collaborators, Gavin Friday and Maurice Seezer. Their best-known team effort was the soundtrack for “In the Name of the Father,” whose title track is absolutely hypnotic.
But back to the book: copies can be ordered from www.peterwolf.org. You’ll also have a chance to see the original artwork up close and personal at the Christie’s auction house in Los Angeles from Oct. 13-15, and at Christie’s New York branch (at Rockefeller Center) on Nov. 20 and 21. The canvasses will be auctioned off by Christie’s on the latter dates, with all proceeds going to the Irish Hospice Foundation.
