Boston’s GAA officially opens its 2000 season with six games on Sunday, May 7, at Canton.
Registrations ended at midnight April 30 with hundreds of new players signed up for what promises to the best season ever in Boston. All eight senior teams will be in action and what better way to start the season with Aiden McAnespies taking on The Shannon Blues.
These two teams met two weeks ago in The Millennium Cup with The Blues on top by two points. But some big changes are likely from both teams in their next outing. This game will be too close to call but the fans should be more than satisfied.
In the second senior game, Donegal take on the Connemara Gaels. The Gaels did not impress in their last outing with Kerry, so Donegal gets the vote here.
In the third senior game, Kerry will do battle with old rivals Cork. Both teams won their last games but it was only a Cup game. Cork looked a bit rusty in that game but we can be sure they will be up for a Kerry challenge.

The fourth game sees Mayo taking on the Tones. Mayo has not seen any action this year, while the Tones lost in overtime to the Killes, 13 to 1-9, in the Millennium Cup. So the vote here would be for the Tones.
The women play at 11:30 a.m. when the North East and North American champions, the Boston Shamrocks, take on Tir na nOg. Tir na nOg had a fairly convincing win over Roscommon two weeks ago. The Shamrocks have yet to play a game. This could be a close game but the Shamrocks have a lot of experience and are expected to win.
In Intermediate football, St. Columbkilles take on St. Christophers. The Killes are dropping down a grade here and, coming off that overtime win over the Tones two weeks ago, the team should see off anything that the Christophers might have in store for them.
Here is Sunday’s schedule:
11:30 a.m., Ladies Football, Shamrocks vs. Tir na nOg; 12:45 p.m., Intermediate Football, St. Columbkilles vs. St. Christophers; 2 p.m., Senior Football, Shannon Blues vs. Aiden McAnespies; 3:15 p.m., Donegal v.s Connemara Gaels; 4:30 p.m., Kerry vs. Cork; 6 p.m., Mayo vs. Wolfe Tones.
