Both sides please

So too, as it happens, are an eclectic array of fellow Democrats and Republican rivals.
The 2008 election isn’t even visible over the horizon yet but already we have a dozen or so candidates from both parties who have declared themselves, or who are expected to step into the fray in the near future.
No matter what, it’s already shaping up to be a bumper election year. This is not entirely surprising since the ’08 contest will be the first open Oval Office plebiscite in several decades.
By this we mean no incumbent or vice president is seeking the job.
Obviously we hope that all the candidates will have something to say about Ireland as their campaigns unfold.
There is certainly every chance that more than one of them will turn up for the now keenly anticipated return of an Irish American Presidential Forum.
We hope it’s more than one candidate and that they come from both parties this time. Irish America deserves nothing less.
