Bronx Soccer Lansdowne, Beal Bocht victorious

On five minutes Fiona’s went close when a shot by Catherine McAteer went over the bar. Then on 10 minutes Lansdowne had a corner, taken by Annemarie McGrail, which was put into the net, 1-0 to Lansdowne. Fiona’s got back in the game, but a shot by Mags Ryan which went inches wide on 15 minutes. On 20, Bernie Boyle passed to Georgia Cabrera, whose shot went into goal, 2-0, to Lansdowne.

The second half started with Fiona’s going forward with shots on goal on 43, 49, and 55 minutes by Michelle Davis, Catherine McAteer, and Lisa Monaco, respectively. Lansdowne kept plugging away and went close with shots from Beth Roper and Bernie Boyle. Fiona’s stayed in touch most of the second half, and got a goal on 69 minutes from Lisa Monaco, but it was too late.

Best for Lansdowne: Bernie Boyle, Georgia Cabrera, Beth Roper.

Best for Fiona’s: Catherine McAteer, Michelle Davis, Erin Treacy.

Beal Bocht 4, J.J. Gilligan’s 0

The second game of the day, J.J. Gilligan’s started well. After five minutes, Catherine Donohue had a shot well saved by Pauline Boylan. After 10 minutes, Maudy Lynn had a shot from 30 yards that went just over the bar. Beal Bocht came into the game with shots by Sophia Harvey and Patricia Thelwell that just went wide. Then on 18 minutes Brenda Walsh passed to Sophia Harvey, who turned the Gilligan’s defense and scored, making it 1-0 Beal Bocht. Gilligan’s kept plugging away with shots by Breda McCrohan and Melissa Stevens just going wide. Then on 30 minutes, a corner for Beal Bocht was met by Tricia Halloran, who shot and scored, giving Beal Bocht a commanding 2-0 lead at intermission.

The second half started with Beal Bocht going forward with shots by Varina Carey and Joan Davis well saved by Olivia Murphy. On 45 minutes, Sophia Harvey received the ball and scored, making it 3-0 Beal Bocht. Gilligan’s had chances from Jackie Wood and Catherine Donohue that were well saved. On 65, a cross came in from the Beal Bocht defense, which was met by Varina Carey, who shot and scored the final goal.
