Bronx Soccer: Wins for Moms, Harps and Béal Bocht

Gilligans, who have had a tough start to the season were unable to prevent Parlour Moms getting their second win. Final score,, Parlour 3, Gilligans 0.

Gilligans put up a brave battle despite only having eight players. They frustrated the Parlour for long periods of the first half.

Gilligans keeper, Kathleen Lynett kept her team in the game for much of the first half.

Just before the half ended, the Parlour took the lead when a Melanie Scheiffer shot went into the net.

In the second half, Gilligans continued to do well and started to create more chances, Frances Brennan and Maudy Lynn went close a couple of times.

At the back Tirenna Wall was having an excellent game.

The Parlour with Celia Reese playing well got what they deserved with two more goals from Melanie Schmitt and Wendy Hollender.

Harps 2, Lansdowne 0,

Harps produced an impressive win with a 2-0 score against rivals Lansdowne. Harps began with some fine football and created some early chances with Nancy Moldavan and Karen Shalvey going close.

Melissa Mann for Lansdowne was having a great game in the defense cutting out numerous Harp attacks. Despite their pressure, Harps couldn’t find a way through coming closest when a Teresa Brink shot went past the post.

In the second half, Lansdowne caused some pressure for the Harps defense but Martina Duffy and Katie McNeil held firm with some great tackling.

Second half substitute Miriam Peters started to cause problems for Lansdowne and it was her pass that led to the first goal when Alyson Kaye hit an unstoppable shot into the net from 25 yards. Then with five minutes left Marie Flood completed the scoring getting on the end of a corner.

Béal Bocht 2, Southbend 1

Béal Bocht got their act together with an impressive win over Southbend. After a 1-1 result last week against Lansdowne, Béal Bocht got their first win with second half goals from Mary Touhy and Siobhan Brennan, this after Southbend took the lead.
