By Staff Reporter

An Beal Bocht defeated Fiona’s, 2-1. Pressing for qualification for the playoffs of the summer league championship, Beal Bocht completed the job with an excellent win.

Fiona’s made this very difficult for Bocht. After 20 minutes, they took the lead with a well worked goal that allowed Fiona’s striker, Michele Davis, to score.

However, Beal Bocht showed their character and they were rewarded with a penalty, which Mary McElvoy struck firmly into the back of the net for the equalizer.

Just before halftime, Beal Bocht pulled into the lead.

The second half was very competitive with neither team able to add to the score.

Best for Beal Bocht were Mary McElvoy, Michele Balin and Brenda Walsh.

Harps 2, Lansdowne 1

League leaders the Harps consolidated their position at the top with a fine performance against fierce rivals Lansdowne.

The Harps got off to a great start when after a minute Allison Kaye’s speculative cross dropped into the net.

The Harps, with the best defensive record in the league, began to play some great football. Aiobhann Morris, Hilary Potkewitz and Sandra Swinburne were particularly impressive, creating numerous chances.

The Lansdowne came more into the match as the half progressed and went close with a shot from Loretta Duffy.

The start of the second half was a scrappy affair with no team taking control. The Lansdowne almost equalized when Harps defender Teresa Brink almost turned the ball into her own net but Chris Gallagher made a great save.

Eventually, Lansdowne found a way through when a scramble in the box was turned in by Karen Arcadia. This had the effect of making the Harps go for the winner. It came two minutes from time when Karen Shalvey took the ball forward and hit a powerful shot into the top of the Landsowne net.

Parlour 1, Southbend 0

The Parlour did themselves a power of good with a well deserved win over Southbend.

This was a game the Parlour dominated and should have scored more than the one goal. The goal was scored midway through the first half by Melanie Schmitt.

This result means that the league holders have given themselves a chance to qualify for the playoffs.

€ Positions with one week to go: Harps (15 points), An Beal Bocht (12), Parlour (7), Lansdowne (6), Southbend (6), Gilligans (4), Fiona’s (3).
