Bronx Women’s Soccer Burke’s brace lifts defending champs Harps

Harps 4, Lansdowne 1

The defending champions got off to a winning start in the Bronx women’s league at the weekend. After five minutes, Lisa Burke received the ball from Sandra Swinburne and put the ball past the Lansdowne keeper. On 15 minutes, Karen Shalvey crossed the ball and Burke was there again to make it 2-0. Swinburne then scored at 25 minutes and teammate Mary Beth Gazley followed eight minutes later to make it 4-0 at the break. Pattie Barrett scored in the second half for Lansdowne.

Best for Harps: Lisa Burke, Sandra Swinburne, Mary Beth Gazley.

Best for Lansdowne: Pattie Barrett, Anne Marie Flynn, Stephanie Bliss.

Parlour Moms 2, Sean Ogs 0

Parlour Moms got off to a good start against a new Sean Ogs team. On 15 minutes, the ball was cleared by the Sean Ogs defense, but to the feet of Melissa Stevens, who curled it into the back of the net. On 20 minutes Sean Ogs could have leveled it when Elaine McMahon gave the ball to Teresa Doyle, whose shot went over the bar. On 65 minutes, the Parlour Moms’ Wendy Hollender passed it to Melanie Schmitt, who beat the defender.

Best for Parlour Moms: Melissa Stevens, Joan Madden, Karen Rice.

Best for Sean Ogs: Caroline Murphy, Karen Prior, Ashling Moore.

Beal Bocht 2, Granuaille 0

This was a good tight game with two good chances by Sophia Harvey, who scored on 45, and 68 minutes. Granuaille’s are a new team in the league. They had chances from a Gillian Bennett free kick on 30 minutes.

Best for Beal Bocht: Breda O’Neill, Sophia Harvey.

Best for Granuaille’s: Sue Bennett, Rosie O’Reilly, Gillian Bennett.
