Parlour 2, Beal Bocht 2

The Parlour made it through to the playoff stages of the league with an exciting 2-2 draw with Beal Bocht. This game was an open affair, with both sides attacking each other at will. After 10 minutes, Bocht took the lead when a well-worked move presented a chance for Jenine Rynne, who calmly finished with a low shot.

This gave Bocht the encouragement to look for more goals and came close on a couple of occasions but Parlour keeper Robin Mierza made some impressive saves. Just before halftime, Beal Bocht were caught on the break and a powerful shot by Melanie Schmitt found its way past Bocht keeper Pauline Boylan.

The Parlour started the second half much better, spurred on by some excellent play by Mara Kaplan. They took a deserved lead when Maggie Bradley got on to the end of a cross to shoot into the net for her first Parlour goal. Beal Bocht, however, showed why they have been near the top all season. They began to put pressure on the Parlour defense and it paid off when Jen Rynne got her second and her side’s equalizer.

Harp 4, Southbend 0

Harps established themselves as the outstanding team in the league as they maintained a 100 percent record. Southbend created little and only had one shot the whole game.

In the first half the Harps made hard work of the chances they created and weren’t able to put finishing touches to them. Just before the end of the half, substitute Norma McCarthy took a pass from Karen Shalvey and hit a low shot into the corner of the net. This settled the Harps down for the second half and they began to produce the football that took them to the top.

The second goal arrived when an intelligent pass from Miriam Peters set up Alison Kaye for a goal. Mary Peters got on the scoresheet herself finishing off a cross from Hillary Potkewitz. The scoring was completed with two minutes left Jane Woodcock scoring her first goal when she got on to the end of a corner to hit into the empty net. Best for the Harps were Maureen Ennis, Hilary Potkewitz and Katie McNeil.

Lansdowne 6, Gilligan’s 0

Lansdowne booked their place in the top four by thrashing Gilligan’s. Gilligan’s were a player short and missing their goalkeeper. Lansdowne, however, were impressive and led by 2-0 at halftime. In the second half there was no let up and Lansdowne put four more past the unfortunate Gilligan’s keeper. Best for Lansdowne were Catherine Russell, Loretta Duffy and Karen Arcadia.
