“The four-month period September-December represents 30 percent of overall business for the year so there is a lot of play for to year end,” said Paul O’Toole, Tourism Ireland chief executive.
Dublin is a big draw, with regional markets suffering to some extent.
O’Toole noted that overseas visitors’ numbers are up in the first five months of this year. “However we recognize of course that they don’t necessarily translate to the bottom line for everyone in the industry,” he added.
He said margins remain under pressure and visitors are not only booking late but also making shorter trips.
