Castle must give way to road – sometime

Ireland’s minister for the environment, Martin Cullen, cleared the way for the M50 to proceed, even though its construction will collide with Carrickmines Castle, a 13th century archaeological site located adjacent to the motorway interchange that’s planned for the south Dublin suburb.
The reasons for the decision, outlined in the Dail last week, were soaring costs, traffic congestion, safety for local residents and the general public interest.
