Celtic Tiger finding ample quarry in U.S.

A bundle of investment ventures in Ireland by American companies in the pharmaceutical, medical products and related health-care fields was recently announced by the Irish Industrial Development Agency.

Twelve U.S. companies have agreed to proceed with new ventures in Ireland with a total capital commitment of $1 billion. The projects will create employment for some 3,700 people when fully operational.

Nine of the world’s top 10 pharmaceutical companies now have substantial manufacturing facilities in Ireland.

More than 200 international pharmaceutical and medical products companies now use Ireland as a base for developing, manufacturing and marketing a diverse range of healthcare products. Thirteen of the world’s top 15 pharmaceutical companies and 10 of the top 15 medical products companies operate in Ireland.
