Then he gets tapped to introduce Bono & Co. at the Oscars — in front of a worldwide audience estimated at over 1 billion people. And finally, during the introduction, he utters a few words in Irish and everyone goes crazy.
The phone was ringing off the hook at the Irish Echo office the day after the Oscars. Columnists from major entertainment outlets begged, cajoled and bribed Echo staffers to translate Colin’s words. (Hmmmm, where does one park a HumVee in Midtown Manhattan?) We confess to telling one scribe that Colin was referring to Bono as “the Dark Prince of the Underworld.” (Hey, it’s all about where you place the fadas, right?)
