College Roundup: Behan shows holiday spirit

Winthrop’s Jason Killeen enjoyed a productive 9 minutes in the Eagles’ 69-56 victory over Georgia College & State. The 6-foot-10 center from Limerick scored 9 points, shooting 4-for-5 from the floor and 1-for-2 from the line. He also plucked 5 rebounds. Winthrop (9-4) then whistled past Ferrum, 90-62, with Killeen grabbing 4 rebounds in 11 minutes.
St. Thomas Aquinas’ Chris Butler scored 8 points in the Spartans’ 68-59 loss to Assumption. The Ballymena junior connected on 4-for-9 from the floor and picked up four rebounds. In STA’s previous game, a 70-45 thumping at the hands of St. Anselm, Paul Butler chipped in 5 points, hitting 2-for-4 from the floor, including 1-for-3 from long distance. Also a junior from Ballymena, Paul Butler picked up 4 rebounds in this contest. The Spartans are 4-8.
Paul Cummins posted 5 points in only 9 minutes on the floor, although Lafayette (4-7) lost to No. 9 Georgia Tech, 92-58. The Newbridge, Co. Kildare, freshman shot 2-for-4 from the floor, including 1-for-3 from out Tara way.

WOMEN’S HOOPS
Aine O’Dwyer accounted for 6 points in New Jersey Institute of Technology’s 70-59 loss to Bryant. The Killenaule, Co. Tipperary, sophomore was 2-for-6 on field goal attempts and 2-for-3 from the stripe. She also got her hands on 6 rebounds, assisted on four baskets and made 3 steals. The Highlanders are 4-6.
Kim Fitzpatrick scored 10 points to help Quinnipiac (3-6) defeat Western Michigan, 71-65. The Waterford senior hit 4-for-9 from field-goal range, including 1-for-2 from bonus land, and 1-for-1 on foul shots. She also sent 4 assists her teammates’ way.
