St. Joseph’s of Philadelphia split a pair of home games last week, thrashing Stanford, 69-41, and then receiving similar treatment from second-ranked Tennessee, 82-59. Sophomore forward Susan Moran scored in double figures in both contests. She dropped in 12 points against Stanford, connecting on four of eight from the floor and nailing all four free throws. She led the Hawks with 16 points against Tennessee, hitting four of 13 field goal attempts and eight of nine foul shots. Moran, who resides in Tullamore, Co. Offaly, also pulled down seven rebounds in each game. St. Joe’s is 7-2.
Men’s Basketball
Teikyo Post University of Connecticut features four Irish players in its Division II hoops program. Peter Madsen, a 6-foot-1 sophomore from Dublin, is averaging 9.86 points per game. Nearly half of Madsen’s field goal production has come from three-point territory. He has also converted 17 of 19 foul shots.
Kieran Quinn, a 6-6 senior from Cappawhite, is averaging 8.29 points per game and is likewise proficient with the heave. He has swished 11 of 22 three-point attempts. He also carries an average of 4.57 rebounds per game.
Mick Richardson, a 6-4 junior from Dublin, is averaging 4.83 points per game and 4.5 boards. Ronan O’Leary, a 6-9 freshman from Derry, is slowly being worked into rotation, averaging 1.17 points and 1.83 rebounds per game.
