St. Joseph’s of Philadelphia rebounded from its pre-Christmas blowout loss to Rutgers by winning the championship of the Pathmark Hawk Classic. Susan Moran, a junior forward from Tullamore, Co. Offaly, was named to the All-Tournament team.

Moran was second on St. Joe’s in scoring in the 63-52 championship win over Seton Hall. She posted 18 points on 8-for-21 shooting from the floor, plus 2-for-3 from the foul line. St. Joe’s made it to the finals with a 59-51 win over Central Connecticut State. Moran led all scorers with 25 points. She sank 12 of 18 attempts from the floor and converted her only free throw. She also grabbed eight rebounds. St. Joe’s is now 6-5.

Iona, meanwhile, was defeated by Temple, another Philadelphia school, 70-67. Michelle Fahy, a freshman center from Galway, was co-high scorer for the Gaels with 17 points. She was 5-for-9 from the floor and 7-for-8 from the stripe. She also received credit for four assists and six rebounds. Iona fell to 3-7 with the loss.

The Lady Jaspers lost the first game of the Marriott Big Apple Classic to Davidson, 68-65. Kilkenny had 16 points. Manhattan then thumped Liberty 70-45 in the consolation game. Kilkenny led Manhattan with 14 points on 6-for-16 firing, including 2-for-7 from the shores of Lough Conn. She also committed four steals. Manhattan is 7-4.
