Covenant House to honor Mitchell

Covenant House, the largest privately funded emergency shelter for youth in the world, is celebrating its 27th year of humanitarian service at a benefit dinner on June 1 at the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel. Senator George Mitchell, Northern Ireland peace facilitator, is the guest of honor. He will be joined by journalist Leslie Stahl of "60 Minutes."

The New York-based shelter, which is on West 17th Street, is led by Sister Mary Rose McGeady. she and her staff serve youth who come seeking help from their pain, neglect and abuse. The shelter provides food, clothing, medical care, counseling, education and vocational training.
