D.C. hearing will focus on ‘disappeared’

Rep. Chris Smith (R-NJ) is planning to hold a congressional hearing into how the U.S. could help forensic experts find the remains of murder victims on both sides of the border in Ireland whose bodies have never been found.
Staff for the congressman said their office would seek to have the Federal Bureau of Investigation lend immediate expert assistance to Irish and British forensics specialists in order to allow families to properly bury loved ones gone missing.
Earlier this month, the body of Gareth O’Connor, who disappeared two years ago, was recovered.
His family blames the IRA for his death, but the group has denied involvement. The body was found in a Newry canal after an anonymous tip was give to police.
