Dinner dances galore as sports clubs celebrate

The Limerick Hurling Club and the Limerick Association of New York will hold a victory celebration and dinner dance on Feb. 27 in the Royal Regency Hotel, 165 Tuckahoe Rd., Yonkers. Cocktails from 8- 9 p.m.

Music will be provided by Brogue.

The guest of honor will be Maurice Foley and the Hurler of the Year award will go to Finbar Flood.

Rangers’ dance

The Rangers’ Football Club will hold its annual dance in Gaelic Park on Feb. 27. There will be a hot and cold buffet catered by Morley’s, with open bar.

Music will be by Joey Moran and his band.

Guest of honor will be Old Parish, Co. Waterford, native Teresa Cassels. She lives in Yonkers. Player of the Year is Dave Phelan, from Ballymacarbry, Co. Waterford.

The club won U-10, U-16, U-18 and U-21 championships in 1998. Presentation of trophies will be a big part of the evening.

Fermanagh dinner dance

The Fermanagh Gaelic Football Club will hold its annual dinner dance on Saturday, March 6, in Greentree Country Club, New Rochelle. Guest of Honor is Belleek native and club PRO Sheila Denning, Clubperson of the Year is Nollaig Cleary, the club secretary.

Kilkenny celebration

The Kilkenny Association of New York and the Kilkenny Hurling Club of New York host the Kilkenny St. Patrick’s Day festival dance on March 13 in the Greentree Country Club, 538 Davenport Ave., New Rochelle. Festivities start at 8 p.m. with a cocktail hour. A full-course dinner (choice of three menus) will follow at 9:15 p.m.

Music will be provided by Rumor Has It.

Tickets cost $60 each. Guest of honor will be Keith McKorry. There will also be a gala prize drawing.

Sligo dance

The Sligo Association of New York will hold its annual St. Patrick’s dinner dance on March 13 at 8 p.m. in Leonard’s of Great Neck, N.Y.

The guest of honor will be band leader Joe Nellany, while the Sligo Person of the Year Award will be presented to Bridie O’Reilly.

Lansdowne rugby

The Lansdowne Rugby Football Club will hold their third annual St. Patrick’s Day Rugby Tournament on Saturday, March 13, at Van Cortlandt Park, at 251st Street, in the Bronx.

The last two years have seen as many as 25 teams New York, New Jersey, Connecticut and Massachusetts, competing in Premiere, Club and Social brackets. The tournament begins at 9 a.m. and runs until mid-afternoon, with the nearby Lansdowne Bar hosting the traditional post-game socializing.

Roscommon dance

The Roscommon Football Club’s annual dance which will take place on March 20 at the Polish Center in Yonkers.

Guest of honor will be Mary Toolan. Currently involved with the Mayo Ladies side, Mary is also involved heavily in the New York ladies team. A large crowd is anticipated.

St. Barnabas Soccer Club

St. Barnabas Soccer Club has resumed training for all three teams at Evander Child H.S. on Gunhill Road. With the first league games due to start in early March, training will take place on Tuesday and Thursday nights.

St. Barnabas 10th annual table quiz series third and final qualifying round will take place this Friday, Feb. 19, in The Aqueduct Bar on Katonah Avenue at 9 p.m. Tables of 4-5 people at $50 per table. Astoria Gaels

Astoria Gaels Soccer season resumes this week with an Intersquad game at 11 a.m. in Randells Island. After the winter break the Gaels are 2nd in their division with six games left to play. Philadelphia Gaels

A motion submitted by Tyrone G.F.C. asking the Philadelphia Divisional Board to support Monaghan man, Sean McCague in his bid for the presidency of the Gaelic Athletic Association was passed by a large majority at the Philadelphia Divisional Board Convention held on Feb. 7 in the Commodore Barry Irish Center.

With only a mediocre attendance, the following board was elected: Brendan Lotty, (chairman), Robert Mc Hugh (vice chairman), Sheila Shovlin (secretary), Patsy Duddy (treasurer), John McDaid (registrar), Paul McCarthy (PRO).
