Donegal win Philadelphia football title

Donegal 2-9, Derry 1-9

Sharpshooting Donegal clinched the Philadelphia senior title Sunday with a hard-fought victory over Derry.

A goal in each half, the first from Gerry Armstrong and the second from sub Eoin Robbins, were crucial to the final outcome. In between those scores Derry had a monopoly on possession but failed to capitalize. A goal by Ryan Stringer early in the second half brought Derry to within one point, and it took heroic defending from Donegal’s Barney McDermott and Shane McCormack to keep Derry at bay.

Barry’s 1-15, Young Ireland’s 1-5

Kevin Barrys won this intermediate game on Shane McGeehan’s breakthrough goal. From that moment Young Ireland’s were fighting an uphill battle. Cathal O’Boyle got through for a late goal for Young Ireland’s.
