Dublin holds line on emigrant funds

The figure matches grant levels from last year but falls well short of a sum recommended in the report of the government’s own “Task Force on Policy Regarding Emigrants,” which was made public last August.
The report recommended that the $300,000 annual grant be increased to euro 2 million (roughly $2.3 million at current exchange rates) for this fiscal year and reach euro 6 million by 2005.
