Teikyo Post’s Peder Madsen became the seventh player in the program’s history to reach the 1,000-point plateau in the Eagles’ 94-88 loss to Goldey Beacom. Madsen, a senior from Dublin, finished the game with 23 points. All but two points came from three-point range.
“Peder has worked very hard for four years,” said Tom Curle, Teikyo’s coach. “I am proud that he has distinguished himself as one of the premier scorers and three-point shooters in the history of the program. He has missed two games in four years, and has provided the team with constant effort throughout his career. He is a positive example of commitment and consistency.”
The Waterbury, Conn.-based Teikyo Post, now 9-8, hits the road for a Saturday game in Delaware against Wilmington.
Gray Dredge poured in 12 points in Azusa Pacific’s 72-57 victory over California Baptist. The Clondalkin, Co. Dublin, senior made 3 of 4 from the floor and 6 of 8 from the line. He also had four rebounds. The Cougars then fell to 15-4 with an 82-73 loss to Westmont. Dredge put nine points on the board, going 3 for 4 from both the field and the foul line. Azusa faces Point Loma on Friday and Hope International on Tuesday, both at home.

Susan Moran was named the Atlantic 10 Conference’s woman Player of the Week for the seventh time this season, for the week ending Jan. 19. The St. Joseph’s (Pa.) senior from Tullamore, Co. Offaly, registered a double-double in a 76-40 blowout of St. Bonaventure. She dropped in 7 of 12 field goal tries (including one bomb) and 3 of 4 foul shots. She also took down 16 caroms. Fordham was next to feel the sting, as Moran scored 29 points (11-for-20, 7-for-8) and hauled in 11 boards in a 75-50 Hawks’ triumph. Moran also had five steals. St. Joe’s 11-game winning streak was snapped in the next outing, however, a
68-62 loss to George Washington. Moran was held to 14 points on 5-for-19 shooting from the field and 4 of 5 from the stripe. She also had 10 rebounds and three assists. In the game, Moran became the second player in the program’s history to score 2,000 points. She now stands second on the all-time list with 2,002. Dale Hodges holds the record with 2,077. St. Joe’s, now 14-3 overall and 5-1 in the Atlantic 10, visits Rhode Island on Thursday before returning home for a match with Temple on Sunday.
Michelle Fahy had a double-double in Iona’s 76-71 road triumph over Canisius. The Galway sophomore scored 18 points on 8-for-15 shotting from the floor and 2-for-4 from the line. She also earned credit for 10 rebounds, five assists and two blocked shots. Earlier in the week, Fahy put 10 points on the board in the Gaels’ 65-62 loss to Yale. She made 3 of 8 from the field and 4 of 4 from the line. She also had three blocks, but was hampered by foul trouble, which limited her playing time to 25 minutes. Iona closed the week with a 78-65 loss to Niagara. Fahy had nine points (4-for-7, 1-for-2), eight rebounds and five assists. Iona is 5-11 overall and 3-4 in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference. Iona hosts Siena on Sunday afternoon.
Kate Maher had nine points on 4 of 6 shooting from the floor as Sacred Heart downed Central Connecticut State, 55-38. The Waterford sophomore also converted 1 of 2 free throws and pulled down three rebounds. The Pioneers also handed Mount St. Mary’s an 87-75 loss, with Maher scoring six points as she made all three field goal attempts. She also had six rebounds and three assists. Sacred Heart is 8-7 overall and 4-2 against Northeast Conference opponents. The Pioneers have a busy week ahead of them, facing LIU in
Brooklyn on Thursday, St. Francis (N.Y.) at home on Saturday and Central Connecticut in New Britain on Monday.
Siobhan Kilkenny scored 11 points in Manhattan’s 77-69 overtime win against Rider. The junior from Castlebar, Co. Mayo, made all four field goal attempts, including one three-pointer, and was 2-for-3 from the foul line. She also grabbed six rebounds in only 18 minutes of play. Kilkenny also had 9 points in the Jaspers’ 71-57 loss to St. Peter’s. She clicked on 3 of 6 from the floor (1 of 2 from downtown) and 2 of 2 from the line. Manhattan is 9-7 overall and 4-3 in the MAAC. Manhattan hosts Niagara on Friday evening and Canisius on Sunday afternoon.

Tennessee’s Andrew Bree won two individual events and finished third in another at the Dallas Morning News Classic in Texas. The sophomore from Helens Bay, Co. Down, won the 400-yard intermediate medley in 3:53.79, a mere hundredth of a second over Southern Methodist’s Michael Jacobsson. Bree also took the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:00.06, with his nearest pursuer finishing more than 2 seconds after he did. Bree was also third in the 200-yard intermediate medley, with a time of 1:49.89. Jacobsson won this race in 1:49.64. Bree didn’t make it into the finals of the 100 yard breaststroke, but did win the consolation final in a time (55.70 seconds) that would have placed him second in the final heat. He also swam anchor on the Volunteers’ 800-yard freestyle relay team, which placed third.
Tennessee, with 292 points, finished second to California, which garnered 328. Bree, by himself, accounted for 51 of his team’s total points. Tennessee next takes on Georgia in a dual meet at Athens, Ga., on Saturday.
