Klein, who holds the John Sharkey Chair in eCommerce at University College Dublin, said that the constantly changing nature of technology, in all its contexts, added to this difficulty of comprehension. However,it was clear that eCommerce was alive and well and making further inroads into business and everyday life, he said.
He also noted that the dynamics of change provided a unique opportunity to learn and understand some of the foundations of business, economics and even society as a whole.
The lecture was delivered in the presence of John Sharkey, who is a member of Smurfit School?s North American Advisory Board. The eponymous chair has been funded by members of this board.
The audience included leading members of Ireland ?s business community, Smurfit School Advisory Board members and corporate partners, faculty representatives and MBS students with a particular interest in IT and eCommerce.
Sharkey retired as vice president of MCI WorldCom in 1999 following an career in the telecommunications industry. He is a member of the boards of the American Ireland Fund, the Ireland-US Council for Commerce and Industry, Mutual of America Institutional Funds, Our Lady of Mercy Medical Center in New York, and Belfast?s Flax Trust.
