Senior Hurling:
Erin’s Own 3-22 Harry Bolands 3-13
Erin’s Own have positioned themselves very well to qualify for a place in the final of the Central divisional senior hurling championship with a well deserved victory over Harry Bolands in a most entertaining game at Chicago Gaelic Park last Sunday. Erin’s Own had to pull out all the stops in the final quarter before ensuring victory over a gallant Bolands team that were without a couple key players from the previous Sunday.
Two opportunist goals by Eamonn McKee and David Burke in the 52nd and 55th minutes proved to be the deciding factor in Erin’s Own overcoming the strong Bolands challenge.
Despite the intense heat and high humidity the players gave their all and the closeness of the scoring through the end of the third quarter provided good value for the small attendance.
Erin’s Own set the early pace and seemed to be heading for an easy win as they went in front 0-4 to 0-1, with their scores coming from Cathal Murray and Michael Bevens.

Playing with more intensity than in previous games Harry Bolands became the more aggressive side at the end of the first quarter and soon found themselves in front following points by Liam Hogan, Declan Hoyne, Nial Burke and Lennie Higgins. They stretched their lead to 4 points when Nial Burke goaled in the 23rd minute.
Both teams exchanged points for the remainder of the half to leave the interval score 1-8 to 0-7 in Harry Bolands favor. The game remained evenly contested during the early stages of the 3rd quarter until Bevens scored Erin’s Own first goal in the 38th minute followed by a point by Liam Walsh to tie the game. Further points by Murray, Liam McGrath and Colm Cassidy regained the lead for Erin’s Own but Liam Hogan, who scored 4 goals the previous Sunday against Cuchulainn, shot to the net in the 43rd minute to bring the teams level one more time. However, the stronger and more balanced Erin’s Own team took control in the final quarter out-scoring their opponents 2-8 to 1-2 for a well deserved 9 point victory.
Senior Football:
Wolfe Tones 4-12 Parnells 0-4
While this contest developed into a mismatch in which Wolfe Tones had an easy win over Parnells, it was a frightening thunder storm that scattered the attendance from the bleaches to the nearby refreshment center in the opening quarter.
Despite the 20-point difference between the teams at the end of the hour Parnells played some fine football throughout the field in the early stages of the game but failed miserably to convert their fine approach work to scores.
And no doubt, such failures lead to disheartenment and the breakdown of intensity for any team that contributed to a one-sided second half last Sunday.
While up against a more experienced and faster Wolfe Tones team, Parnells stayed within 4 points of their opponents for most of the first half and only trailed by 5 points at the interval, 0-4 to 1-6. Michael O’Brien was the Tones goal score while Brian O’Dwyre, Michael O’Brien, David Martin and free-taker Brian McLaughlin accounted for the points. Parnells points came from Mark Pollin, Barry O’Reilly and Davy Sheilds.
The second half, played in pouring rain, developed into a one-sided affair in which Wolfe Tones scored 3-6 while holding their opponents scoreless. Their three-second half goals were scored by Patrick Coyle (2) and Ronan Fitzsimmons.
