Last spring, at a time when the rest of us might have assumed that the FAI were getting on with the business of preparing for the World Cup, it emerged that a section of one executive meeting was given over to a discussion about how the FAI might stop a Sunday newspaper journalist from getting FIFA accreditation for the tournament.
Instead of asking questions about where the team was going to be based, how Mick McCarthy and Roy Keane were getting on, or other logistically relevant inquiries, the blazers were busy trying to put one over on a hack. Best of all is that the hack’s crime was writing a story about how a rogue courier turned up at the FAI’s offices in Merrion Square one afternoon and picked up an envelope containing
