At this stage, no panel was available from the Galway camp. However it appears that players from the Corofin and Mountbellew clubs will not be involved as they drew in the Galway County final on Sunday last. Joe Bergin was the hero pointing a sixty-yard free in injury time. It seems that new manager, the former Armagh maestro big Joe Keanan, will be trying out some new players, among whom will be Johnny Ryan, Thomas Hughes, Martin Coady, and Damian Reilly. These players were active with the Cavan Club, the Four Provinces, and Kerry during the summer in New York. The New York squad have been training for the last two weeks though all the players could not commit as they were still active with their clubs. It appears that manager Seamus Smyth and trainer Eugene Kyne have a much stronger panel at their disposal than they had for the championship. The squad includes: Alan Hearty, Evan Byrne, Mick Higgins, Denis McCarthy, Alan Raftery, Patsy Martin, Alan Carolan, Brendan Reilly, Brendan McGourty, Tom Hardwick, James Huvane, Sean Munnelly, Gary Reilly, Gary Dowd, Rory Stafford, Dermot Keane, John Goldrick, Sean Lordan, Sean O’Neill, Ronan Caffrey, Michael Sloan, Mark Dobbin, Rory Woods, John Murtagh, Jason Kelly, Nickey Dineen, Packie Downey, Keith McGeeney, Francie Cleary, Robbie Moran, Jack Hoare, Joe Bell, John McNicholas, Dave Mooney, and J.P. Boyle. New York will be hoping for a much better performance than last year as they were comprehensively beaten by 4-15 to 1-13 as the Galwegians led by 3-7 to 2 points after twenty minutes. The referee is Eamon O’Grady from Drumkeerin (Leitrim ) while an entourage of twelve from the Connacht Council is also traveling.
