BOSTON — The FBI has made Irish-American gangster James "Whitey" Bulger the seventh fugitive in its history to have a reward of at least $1 million posted for his arrest.
In announcing the hefty bounty, special agent in charge of the Boston office Charles Prouty said that his office knows that there are people who have information about Bulger. "We are hoping this will induce them to come forward," he said.
The FBI has created an eight-member task force to hunt for Bulger, which includes Massachusetts State Police and U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration agents.
Bulger, who is 71, has been a fugitive since January 1995. He was indicted in late September by a federal grand jury for the murder of 18 people.
