Golfers who play in the 7th annual Northwest Hospice charity golf tournament in Freehold, N.Y., on Aug. 19, will have the opportunity to win a special one-of-a-kind Waterford Crystal centennial centerpiece.

"More of this design will never be made again," tournament organizer John Foody said.

Bearing detailed and intricate cuts, the centerpiece, created especially to mark the start of the new millennium, was donated for the tournament by the hospice itself, which is based in Sligo and serves the surrounding counties of Donegal and Leitrim as well as parts of Mayo and Roscommon.

All golfers who play in the tournament will be included in a special draw for the centennial centerpiece.

A further attraction of this year’s tournament is that it is taking place on a newly extended golf course, Pleasantville Thunderhart, in Freehold, which has been expanded from 9 to 18 holes, and is now able to accommodate 144 golfers.

"This year, I would ask that every golfer bring an extra golfer with them," Foody said.

Tee time is 11 a.m. The cost is $100 per person or $400 per foursome; this includes green fees, electric cart, light lunch and refreshments and full course dinner.

Tee sponsorship costs $100 and tee sponsors will be clearly signposted at each tee.

To attend the dinner costs $25 per person.
