Fruit importer Fyffes has said that its half yearly results reflect last year’s predictions, and pre-tax profits rose 5.8 percent from euro 36.8 million to euro 38.9 million.
After losses of losses of euro 13.7 million in 2001, the group made serious cost cutting measures, according to a spokesperson and is now seeking acquisitions once again.
Dublin-based Fyffes is Europe’s biggest fruit and vegetable importer.
Fyffes bought a 70 percent stake in Czech produce distributor Hortim International earlier this month for over euro 22 million but still has well over euro 160 million in cash to fund any acquisitions it wants to make going forward.
