GAA tribute to gold medalist

February 17, 2011

By Staff Reporter

A member of the United States field hockey team that was victorious in Japan this past February, Annemarie has battled back from a horrific car accident which left her in a coma for seven months.
A member of a prominent New York GAA family, her godfather and Uncle Donie O’Sullivan, and cousins Kieran and Aiden Traynor are well known Gaelic footballers.
Prior to Annemarie’s 1984 accident, she was a prominent high school hurdler with Olympic ambitions who still holds school and regional records.
With encouragement and support from her close knit family, including her mother Anna, sister Diedre Toolan, brothers John and Dermot, Annemarie, whose father John O’Sullivan passed away several years ago, has made an inspirational recovery.
New York Chairman Seamus Dooley made a presentation to Annemarie on the Association’s behalf, drawing a well-deserved ovation from the Gaelic Park crowd.
