Gaelic Park previews: Fermanagh seek revenge over rivals Donegal

Junior A Football Semi Final

Donegal vs Fermanagh

In this all-Ulster semi-final, Fermanagh will be out for revenge over their bitter rivals.

Donegal have already defeated them on two occasions this season, so expect Fermanagh to pull out all the stops for victory here.

With their senior team doing so well this year, Donegal hope to make it a double success with both sides making it at least to their respective finals. Donegal will no doubt be favorites to advance to face Rangers, but at Gaelic Park at championship time, it’s foolish to make predictions.

Senior Hurling

Westmeath vs Kilkenny

Following last week’s victory over Waterford, Westmeath find themselves in the unlikely position of facing a playoff with Kilkenny for the final semi spot.

With Tipp, Waterford and Limerick already in the final four, whoever wins this one will be in good company. Kilkenny have turned their fortunes around having endured a nightmare run last year, though it’s very difficult to predict a winner from these two well matched sides.

Expect a number of inter-county stars over from Ireland for this one.

Senior Football Quarter final

Kerry vs Offaly

It’s another David versus Goliath clash, with last year’s champions taking on second division Offaly.

Much murmuring has been going on concerning Kerry’s recent bad run of form. Having galloped away with the title last year, Kerry started off in good fettle this season. A three-game losing streak however, put paid to that.

With new boss Louis Holland at the helm, Kerry will still be surefire favorites for this one. Expect Offaly to have a sturdy formation awaiting the Kerry onslaught.

Senior Football Quarter Final

Stamford vs Rockland

A game not to be missed. Two of the dark horses for the championship come face to face in a tie which is sure to be an exciting clash.

It’s the upstaters versus the out-of-staters. Rockland, in their first season in senior football, have upset the form book by going all the way to the top of division two, and now they face an enticing prospect versus Stamford.

Stamford have been tipped to go the whole hog ever since they were beaten a few years back in the senior final by Leitrim. With the likes of Kerry, Donegal and Tyrone still up there though, it’s tough to predict a winner from this year’s pack.

Expect a hard fought game between two sides with a lot to prove.
