Galway’s Caltra claim club crown

Inspired by the five Meehan brothers, Enda, Declan, Tomas, Michael and captain Noel, Caltra overcame Kerry’s An Ghaeltacht, by 0-13 to 0-12, in the final Croke Park.
Crucially, An Ghaeltacht, who had Kerry stars Darragh O Se and Dara O Cinneide in their ranks, failed to score from the 47th to the 61st minute when Caltra were able to manage three points, and two late O Cinneide scores brought them flatteringly close to the new champions.
Michael Meehan top-scored with six points, while Noel kicked five as Caltra joined Corofin as Galway’s second winner of the All-Ireland football title.
It was much less close in the hurling decider with Newtownshandrum of Cork proving much too strong for Antrim’s Dunloy on a scoreline of 0-17 to 1-6. With Pat Mulcahy masterful in defense, Dunloy struggled to take their scores while at the other of the pitch, Ben O?Connor hit 10 points including six frees as Newtown, from the Cork-Limerick border, proved their class.
