Girls Aloud singer to pay the piper

February 16, 2011

The incident took place last January, when the singer refused to leave a tip after scooping up a handful of sweets in the ladies’ room. When Sophie Amogbokpa demanded payment, an allegedly inebriated Tweedy allegedly belted her in the alleged gob. Allegedly. Which is not terribly ladylike, if you ask us.
In sentencing the pop star, who’s a member of Louis Walsh’s new act, Girls Aloud, Judge Richard Haworth handed down a scolding.
“I have in mind . . . making an order that will punish you and benefit the community,” he said sternly. “There will also be a compensation order and an order for costs.”
Asked if she understood, the chastened singer replied, “Yes.”
Cheryl is lucky to have gotten off so lightly, since she faced a more serious charge of racially motivated attack. A conviction of a bias crime would have seriously damaged the reputation of the pop band, whose singles have done well on the U.K. record charts. And we can imagine that would have gone down – if you’ll pardon the expressions – a treat with their Svengali-like boss.
