Another fine performance from Paul McGinley was topped by Henrik Stenson in the Benson & Hedges International at the Belfry in England. McGinley’s 10-under-par 278 (66-72-70-70) lagged Stenson by three strokes and earned a share of second place with Angel Cabrera. Farther down the leaderboard were Padraig Harrington, tied for 19th place at 286 (68-72-76-70), Darren Clarke, tied for 27th at 287 (69-76-68-74), and Eamonn Darcy, tied for 57th at 291 (75-67-75-74). Unable to clear the cut line by shooting 145 or better were Paddy Gribben, 150 (70-80), and David Higgins, 153 (81-72).

Euro Seniors

Chances are Allied Irish would have liked to have seen some of the prize money from the AIB Irish Seniors Open deposited into its coffers, but scant chance of that as Japan’s Seiji Ebihara probably had his booty converted into yen after shooting a winning 207 at Powerscourt.

The best that any Irishman could offer was the 219 recorded by Eddie Polland, which placed him in a 38th place tie. He shot rounds of 70, 72 and 77. The only other Irishman to make the cut was Joe McDermott, who had sole possession of 47th place at 220 (77-69-74).
