Paul McGinley was four shots behind Anthony Wall with 18 holes to play in the Alfred Dunhill Championship at the Houghton Golf Club in Johannesburg, South Africa, at the weekend but steady rains curtailed play and Wall was crowned champion after 54 holes. McGinley, who finished 1999 on a steady uptick, tied for fifth place with a score of eight-under 208 (73-66-69).

Keith Nolan is back on the PGA Tour, but was limited to 36 holes in the Sony Open at Waial’ Country Club in Honolulu. The Bray, Co. Wicklow, native missed the cut by one shot, carding rounds of 70 and 71 to finish one over par. Paul Azinger overcame a six-year drought to win the Sony.
