DUBLIN — The Irish government has asked the leading sporting bodies, broadcasters and members of the public to respond to its proposals to designate a list of leading sports events that should be available permanently on free TV by Aug 16.
The proposal to protect and ring-fence events involving soccer, GAA, rugby, and horse racing are being strongly opposed by the sporting bodies.
The list was published after Communications Minister Dermot Ahern and Sports Minister John O’Donoghue met representatives from the FAI, GAA and IRFU.
The proposed events are:
