Granny was a rebel

As a member of Cuman na mBan, Flatley’s Mayo-born granny, Mary Ann Henry, was one of hundreds of young female volunteers who carried messages and supplies to the fighting men. She was also a prolific poet, according to historian John Higgins, a member of the South Mayo Family Research foundation.
“Mary Henry was extremely nationalistic,” Higgins told the Sunday World. “[And] for a person who had only a grade school education, she had a great ability with words. She wrote a number of poems which I now have in my possession.” Which is all well and good, but Henry failed to answer the most burning question: how was her dancing?
