Guinness offers chance to own Limerick pub

February 16, 2011

By Staff Reporter

For the sixth successive year, Guinness drinkers across the U.S. will, starting in late February, be invited to submit their entries for a chance to become the owner of a pub in Ireland. This year, the pub on offer will be J. O’Sullivan’s, in Newcastle West, Co. Limerick.

Guinness enthusiasts, 21 years and older, who put pen to paper and express their passion for the brand by completing the phrase "A perfect pint of Guinness is . . . " in 50 or fewer words will earn the chance to become the newest owner of J. O’Sullivan’s.

Contest entry forms will be available at on- and off-license locations where Guinness and Harp lager are sold. Applicants may also submit their essay on an 8 1/2 by 11 sheet of paper and mail it to Guinness Contest, P.O. Box 61, Byron, MI 48418-0061, or via the Guinness website at www.Guinness.com.

All entries must be received by March 31. Entries will be judged on the basis of originality, relevance to Guinness product, appeal, clarity and appropriateness for use in publicity and advertising.

The Guinness Import Company will choose one finalist from each of 10 designated regions in the U.S.

In May, each finalist and a guest will fly to Ireland to tour Dublin and then travel to Newcastle West to compete in the finals in J. O’Sullivan’s.
